Dr. S. Singsit joined the Manipur Public Service Commission as Chairman on 12th April, 2011. He passed B.Sc. with Distinction from Gauhati University and did M.Sc from Madras Christian College under Madras University. He got into the Indian Forest Service and allotted to Manipur-Tripura cadre of Manipur part in 1976 UPSC exam. He had undergone diploma course in Specialist Social Forestry in Oxford Forestry Institute, United Kingdom in 1989 and Post Graduate diploma in Intensive International Course in Environmental Management under UNEP from TUFT’s University, Boston, USA in 1992. He served the Forest Department in different capacities as DFO, CF, CCF, Addl. PCCF and PCCF. He also served as Deputy Director General (Extention & Research) in Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education under Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India and as Director, Wild life Institute of India, Dehradun. He obtained the degree of Ph.D. in Forest Management from FRI, Deemed University, Dehradun in the year 2009. He retired on superannuation as Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Manipur on 28th of February, 2011.
Some of his important assignment includes as Advisor(Member) of Union Public Service Commission in selection of IFS officers recruitment during the year 1993 & 1996. He was also the Chairman, Recruitment Board of ICFRE for 5 years. Also served as National Consultant for preparation of National Forestry Action Programme under FAO/UNDP and Government of India; as Member Secretary, Supreme Court Monitoring Committee for Dehradun & Mussorie; as Member Secretary, IUCN-Indian National Committee from 2003 to 2004; as team leader of UNEP sponsored expert to Kabul, Afghanistan for exploring collaboration in developing Wildlife Research & Training. He was the team leader in National Heritage site for Nepal and India in the World park’s congress of IUCN at Durban, South Africa in 2003.
Dr. Singsit travelled widely to many countries viz. USA, UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, Thailand, Nepal, Singapore, South Africa, China, Belgium, Luxemburg etc.
Hobbies: Playing games like Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Trekking etc.
